Weekly Notes

Town and Village Renewal: We wish to update everyone in relation to the award of €100,000 to Cappoquin under the Town and Village Renewal Programme. You will recall that at the public meeting held in the Community Centre earlier this year, officials from Waterford City and County Council advised that this money will be spent primarily on a grant scheme for painting and upgrading the facades of properties in the Main Street. 100% grant is to be given to residential owner-occupied properties and 50% to all others. We have now been informed by Waterford City and County Council that as soon as the Council returns to normal working practices following the lifting of the Covid 19 restrictions, this grant scheme will be implemented immediately. The Council will then distribute information sheets and application forms to all properties in the Main Street.

In addition to the above the Cappoquin Community Development Company Grant of up to €300 per property will apply to properties outside of the Main Street. Again, this will be available when we get back to normal operating.

Pride of Place 2008: The photographs this week from our archives of the Pride of Place Awards held in Cappoquin Community Centre in 2008 show in picture 1, our Chairperson Dr Ben Murphy presenting President Mary McAleese with a hamper of local produce. In the background is Mayor Tom Higgins. In picture 2 we have local girl Eileen Kiely (Cummins) who was one of the chief chaperones on the night. In picture 3 are local council workers Paddy Walsh and James Fenton who controlled parking and monitored issues outside the Community Centre.
